We are hiring for the the position of Chocolatier – Chocolate Production Assistant at The Chocolate Manor.

The Chocolate Manor and Artisan Food Emporium sells the handmade chocolates we manufacture on site, and a range of artisan food products from across Northern Ireland. We also offer Chocolate Experiences – allowing visitors to explore and experience the wonderful world of chocolate. We were named Best Food and Drink Experience in NI in 2022.

Chocolatier : Chocolate Production Assistant (including some Retail & Customer Service duties): Permanent contract

This is a 32.5 hours per week role – permanent contract – subject to successful probationary period. The Chocolate Production Assistant will play a vital role in our workshop.

– Retail duties
– Customer Service

We require the post holder to have some level of flexibility in the working of the 32.5 hours to meet the needs of our changing production schedule – a core rota over 5 days will be agreed with the successful post holder, with agreement for flexibility to amend as required.  Weekend work will be part of the core rota.  Previous chocolate production experience is not essential as full training will be given, but preference will be given to applicants with previous professional kitchen experience or food production experience. This role will involve both team work and independent working.  

Reports to: Workshop Manager    

Hours of Work: 32.5 hours per week, including weekends and occasional evenings

Location: The Chocolate Manor, 3 Main Street, Castlerock (Castlerock is on the main Belfast – Derry-Londonderry train line and our premises are a 2 minute walk from the station. Journey time from Coleraine: 8 minutes. Journey time from Derry-Londonderry: 30 minutes)

Salary: Minimum wage according to age category                              
Permanent Contract
The Chocolate Manor has a pension scheme in place for all staff                 
The proposed working pattern is Tues & Wed (half days), Thu, Fri & Sat (full days).
                                                                                                                                     
Essential Criteria:
–  Level 2 in Food Hygiene for Catering or Level 2 Food Hygiene for Manufacturing – can be achieved prior to taking up the post
–  Ability to work 32.5 hours per week including weekend work
–  Attention to detail and ability to follow instruction and a professional reliable approach to tasks
–  Previous employment experience of working within a team environment                                                                                                                                                                                              
Desirable Criteria:
– Understanding of HACCP processes and completion of HACCP documentation
– Previous experience of working in a professional kitchen
– Previous experience of chocolate production/tempering chocolate/food production      
– Previous experience of working in Hospitality – Front of House
– Previous experience of working in Retail
– Previous experience of delivering exceptional Customer Service
– Previous sales experience

Chocolate Production: This post will be mainly in Chocolate Production. The tasks include Creating our range of handmade chocolate products to our exact specifications, as well as supporting colleagues in retail, packaging and experiences as required. Tasks will include the preparation of tempered chocolate, the production of a range of chocolate products, maintenance and cleaning of the workshop, adherence to all hygiene, health and safety requirements, completion of HACCP documentation.

Retail Duties: Whilst the role will mainly be chocolate production, the post holder will be required to support with The Chocolate Shop. Tasks will include  Greeting and serving customers as they enter the shop; Advising and assisting customers with choosing our chocolate products and artisan products; sharing product knowledge; Providing a high level of customer service; Receiving personalised chocolate orders; Conducting customer transactions, including till operation; Replenishing the supply of stock on the shelves and updating production team on stock levels for production; Assisting with shop deliveries; Maintaining cleanliness of the shop; Follow all Health & Safety and relevant HACCP procedures.

Customer Service: The post holder may also be required to support Chocolate Experiences on occasion. Tasks will include greeting and checking in experience participants; Prepping materials before experiences – setting up experience space and ensuring all required materials are ready; Cleaning up after experiences – general clean up, washing and ensuring all materials are left ready for reuse; Assisting experience facilitator as required; Preparing refreshments for participants as required; Follow all Health & Safety and relevant HACCP procedures.
